87% of the world's #LTE connections are in just three countries

Nick Wood reports today on Total Telecom that SK Telecom reached its end-of-year goal of signing up more than 7 million customers to its LTE service. This is an amazing achievement but my eye was really caught by the Wireless Intelligence statistics that South Korea, the U.S. and Japan, together account for 87% of the world's LTE connections.

This was at the end of Q2 when worldwide LTE connections stood at 27 million and SK Telecom had 4 million, but even allowing for any realignment, it throws into stark contrast a global picture of haves and have nots.It will be interesting to see how this changes as more countries start to add LTE connections, but how many will match SK in adding 60,000 per day?

Latest stats from Yankee Group say there will be 258 million LTE connections by the end of 2014 - if true then this graph may change somewhat!
