All-a-Twitter

Milton Keynes Plastic Cows
jaytilston on Flikr
It's been a week of Tweets for @totaltelecom with presence at two events that ended up feeding off each other - even though they were for different audiences and in different countries.

We were delighted to work with ETNO (@etnoassociation) to organise our first ever Regulatory Summit in Brussels on the 30 May. We saw a packed conference room listening to some fantastic speakers including Georg Serentschy of BEREC and Anthony Whelan, the Head of Vice-President Kroes Cabinet.

But what was most notable was the twitter activity. We promoted the hashtag #RegSummit and saw a constant stream of tweets throughout the day.

At the same time, in the somewhat less glamorous surroundings of Milton Keynes similarly furious tweeting surrounded #NextGen12. Again a good line up of speakers including Broadband Development UK, a slightly embattled representative of BT and the charismatic Mark Kellett of Magnet.

Although not connected there was a twitter clash around the hot topic of investing in fibre - subject of a keynote at our Brussels event from Gregor Langus of Charles River Associates.

So twitter rules when it comes to regulation. It will be interesting to see if this still holds true when Neelie Kroes joins ETNO next Monday to create a Twitter Storm - follow the hastag or put a question with #ETNOKroes

Missed out on the ETNO / Total Telecom Regulatory Summit? Next event from us will be Wireless World in London on the 12 & 13 June - find out more.

A day of mixed fortunes #WVA2012

It was a day of mixed fortunes for Alcatel-Lucent as shares fell sharply on reports of a wider operating loss but there was brighter news in the evening as UK & Ireland CEO, Lucy Dimes, lifted two trophies at the prestigous World Vendor Awards.

First up came Best Content Solution for their Digital Media Store, to be followed up by one of the highlights of the evening, CEO of the Year for Ben Verwaayen. Ben unfortunately couldn't make it to the dinner (something to do with first quarter results - see above!) but did send an acceptance video which you can watch. You can also read an interview with Ben Verwaayen conducted by ETNODigital on Total Telecom.

Joining Alcatel-Lucent at the World vendor Awards were a raft of other excited winners, including both the biggest in the industry (ZTE, Ericsson, Syniverse etc) and some less well known names such as fonYou, ADTRAN, and Momac. You can discover all the winners by downloading the Magazine of the Night.

Finally, speaking of awards, don't forget that entries are now open for the 2012 World Communication Awards, including the new category of Best Place to Work

Save the date: #Regulatory Summit

Total Telecom is delighted to be working with ETNO to produce our first ever Regulatory Summit in Brussels on the 30 May 2012.

The full agenda will be published shortly, with speakers including leading regulators and senior executives of international telecom operators.

The first confirmed keynote is Georg Serentschy, Chairman of the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC). BEREC comprises the heads of 27 National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs) and forms a group through which they exchange expertise and best practice and offer opinions on the functioning of the telecoms market in the EU.

The Regulatory Summit will be free of charge for Policy Makers, ETNO members and qualifying members of the press. There will be a limited number of additional seats available for a small fee.
