The top 4 global operators in telecoms #TTFest #WCA14

WCA Category Spotlight: Best Global Operator

As the World Communication Awards draw nearer we’re finding it harder and harder to hide our excitement here.

As part of the World Communication Awards we’re releasing a set of Category Spotlights (in countdown fashion of course) highlighting the finalists for that particular category. We started things off last week with the Best Brand Campaign and now we turn our attention to the Best Global Operator category.

Finalists
AT&T
NTT Communications
Tata Communications
Telstra

AT&T
AT&T is one of the most honoured communications holdings companies in the world, operating in North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia with customers in practically every country on the planet.
With a powerful array of network resources that includes the nation’s most reliable 4G LTE network, AT&T is a leading provider of wireless, Wi-Fi, high speed Internet, voice and cloud-based services. A leader in mobile Internet, AT&T also offers the best global wireless coverage, based on offering roaming in more countries than any other U.S. based carrier, and offers the most wireless phones that work in the most countries. The sheer amount of IP-based business communications services is one of the most advanced in the world.

NTT Communications
NTT are the top ranked telecommunications company in the world. The company offers seamless services in 196 countries/regions, operates more than 150 data centres, has one of the world's largest IP backbones and is Asia’s largest network wholesaler. With Enterprise customers outside Japan number over 3,400. NTT Com has formulated a global cloud vision as a strategic plan for increasing revenue and profits in the enterprise sector.

Tata Communications
Tata Communications provides innovative services across 6 continents through N industry-leading global infrastructure, and is supported by staff in over 40 countries. A Tier-1 global IP network that spans Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and South America. With a massive global customer base including; 3,000 large enterprises, 1,600 service providers and 700 mobile operators.
It’s also worth noting that in April 2014 Tata Communications was for the first time awarded a position in the ‘Leaders’ quadrant of the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Global Network Service providers. The Magic Quadrant evaluates companies based on ‘completeness of vision’ and ‘ability to execute’.

Telstra
Telstra Corporation Limited (“Telstra”) is one of Australia’s leading telecommunications and media services companies. It is a global supplier of managed network services and international data, voice and satellite services, providing scalable and reliable managed network services.
Telstra has a global footprint in Asia, UK, Europe, Middle East, Africa and the Americas. Its network capabilities are among the largest and most diverse in Asia Pacific. With its international presence including and international Group, headquartered in Hong Kong; Access to 230 countries and territories and more than 2,000 PoPs around the world; A network that stretches over 364,000km around the globe, nearly half the traffic from which feeds into major hubs in Hong Kong and Australia; and a global presence with over 4,000 staff in more than 20 countries.
Telstra’s aspiration is to provide the best service in its industry and has been working hard to put the customer at the centre of everything it does every day. Today, Telstra has about 75,000 more advocates and around 160,000 less detractors than last year and it’s clear that efforts are having a positive impact.

On this day in time...from the Total Telecom archive

Top story currently on the Total Telecom website is AT&T announces $48.5 billion DirecTV deal, giving AT&T a significant foothold in the TV market, but do you know what the big news would be if we turned the clock back 10 years?

Well as least somethings' don't change, as 10 years ago Google were still dominating the news with the headline being: Google planning desktop software search tool – NYT - but of course the idea of desktop search doesn't sounds very revolutionary today!

Going back ten years is a nice example of the depth of the Total Telecom archive, but did you realise we can actually perform the same trick right back to 1997, so on the 19 May 1997 we reported C&W and GTE Face Off in Bid for Foothold in Central America, written by one Jeremy Scott-Joynt.

How times have changed!

New Tricks or Making Space?

New Tricks and Making Space have both been headlines for 2013 issue of Total Telecom+, but last week if you'd wanted to read the PDF's you would have struggled. The reason was an 'upgrade' by our tracking company DoubleClick - part of Google - which left us with tracked links to previous content that they couldn't / wouldn't update! So much for #BigData - we would have passed on any data if it meant readers could access our content!

Anyway, now normal service has been resumed with us updating as many of the links as possible, but if you come across one which still doesn't work, please let us know...
