LTE subscribers use 146% more data than 3G?

This was just one of the interesting facts brought out by our recent webinar on virtualised and software defined mobile backhaul networks [which is now available on demand] and was a great excuse for a nice picture of cascading water (Open the floodgates).

Why should you care about IPX

There's a lot of smoke and mirrors surround IP Exchange or IPX, so it's good to look towards some of the technical product documents. This document is actually quite easy to read and briefly explains that service providers, whether they are Mobile or Fixed Network operators have a critical need for a new interconnect environment to handle a wide range of IP services and that IPX provides a commercial and technical solution to manage IP traffic.

The GSMA also go on to point out that IPX fulfils a number of key principles vital for a successful and sustainable IP Interworking solution:

That any potential player in the delivery of IP services - MNOs, FNOs, Carriers and ISPs - has the freedom of choice to be involved.

Reliable and secure delivery of services with agreed QoS levels

A fair commercial return for parties who meet their obligations in the value chain

Efficient Connectivity - the IPX is a Gateway to a managed IP network - managing data flow and commercial information and providing the benefits of multilateral connectivity to all players.

Moving on from the worthy principles brings us to the research conducted recently by IPX experts Hot Telecom, What Customers Think and Want, which was based on interviews with 70 CSP's and flags that 65% of the respondents plan to be using IPX services by the end of 2015 (Download the EXECUTIVE SUMMARY)

Why Should #IPX Matter to You?

Recently Isabelle Paradis from specialist consultancy Hot Telecom interviewed IPX pioneer Lynn Liu, CEO of Aicent. You can read the interview on Total Telecom, and find out about her

views as to why it is such an important technology.

One of the key points to note is Lynn's comment that IPX matters to everyone:

"The GSMA defined IPX not only for mobile operators, but also to support interoperability between fixed line operators, ISPs, content providers and OTTs."
