Achieving ICT managed services success - Interview with Leroy G. Blimegger Jr.

Managed Services - for so long the “forgotten hero” of the network transformation confronting the industry – is set to play a pivotal role as communications services providers look to navigate their way through a period of unparalleled change. As the industry evolves, automation is the key, according to Huawei, whose Global President of Assurance & Managed Services, Dr Leroy Blimegger Jr., spoke to Total Telecom during a visit to the UK last week.

The 6 most innovative companies making the most of G.fast technology

LEARN ALL ABOUT GIGABIT COPPER

G.fast has the green light but are you making the most of it?

In December the International Telecommunications Union ratified G.fast and certification is rumoured to be scheduled for the autumn. But is the telecoms community moving fast enough to take advantage of this technology?
Here are just some of the most innovative companies utilising G.fast technology.

Sckipio Technologies
The Israeli start-up founded to focus on G.fast technology is the current leader in this field. They have been working with many ODMs and service providers to accelerate the growing demand for G.fast technology.
And at International CES 2015, Sckipio demonstrated the first demo of ultra high definition television using G.fast technology over a G.fast broadband network.

ADTRAN
With the launching of its G.fast product by the second quarter of 2015 ADTRAN is taking G.fast from concept to reality. ADTRAN and G.fast are particularly active in Europe due to the difficulty of deploying all-fibre networks in part of Europe and telcos in the region are incredibly eager to utilise the technology and ADTRAN are making the most of the demand.

Broadcom
Broadcom have revealed a G.fast chipset family and G.fast capabilities for its gateway system on a chip. Providing the highest density approach for end-to-end G.fast equipment design.
As one of the first vendors to launch G.fast deployments, Broadcom has already made some vital ground in this relatively unknown market.

Alcatel-Lucent
Alcatel-Lucent’s ultra-broadband G.fast solution is set to become available early this year and will allow operators to provide their subscribers with much faster internet services. This means that operators can get fibre-like speeds over copper and rolled out to as many people as possible.
Alcatel-Lucent continue to push the boundaries further, as their Bell Labs has most recently demonstrated the capabilities of XG-FAST, extending the possibilities of copper even further.

Huawei and BT
One of the biggest waves in G.fast technology came when Huawei and BT trialled G.fast in a UK residential community. Whilst the trial encountered difficulties, there is no doubt that it accelerated the commercialisation of G.fast and brought us to where we are now.

These are just some of the key innovators utilising G.fast technology and these innovations will be discussed at Gigabit Copper conference 25th March, Sheraton Munich Arabellapark, Munich. The place where we can explore a variety of DSL technologies, provide a platform to understand the most appropriate places for roll out and discuss the future business model once G.fast has been deployed.

Find out why copper is leading the way in telecoms

Earlier this year, we repositioned our Viewpoints section as the Knowledge Network, giving the articles greater prominence in our newsletter and on the website, and readership has gone through the roof.

Every year Total Telecom starts looking at what people have read during the year, including
the whitepapers and eBooks that have stimulated the greatest interest.

Three leaders in Asian Telecoms #ACA14

Now that the voting is open for the 2014 CEO of the Year, several people have asked who the previous winners have been for this prestigious title, which is now into it's forth year at the Asia Communication Awards.

So, looking back at the previous years:

In 2011 we were delighted to name Mr Yue Li, the Chief Executive Officer and General Manager at China Mobile Communications as the inaugural CEO of the Year. He headed a fantastic line up for our first ever Asia Communication Awards, presented at Raffles in Singapore, which included Smart Communications being named Operator of the Year. You can view all the 2011 winners here.

In 2012 the awards dinner moved across to the larger Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel in Singapore as more companies discovered the ACA.

One thing that didn't change was Smart's success, once again walking away with the Operator of the Year trophy, but this time the winners list was headed by Mr. Hu Houkun (Ken Hu) Deputy Chairman of the Board and Rotating CEO of Huawei, who also took Vendor of the Year for the second year running.

And so to 2013 with another new venue in the shape of the imposing Conrad Centennial Hotel, where the Asia Communication Awards will also be presented in 2014 [book your tickets - final night of CommunicAsia: party party party!], which saw some things change, but others stay the same. Huawei completed the hattrick, walking away with Vendor of the Year for the third consecutive year, whilst local player StarHub took the trophy for Operator of the Year. CEO of the Year went to the widely admired Vinod Kumar of Tata. You can view the entire roll of honour here.

So who will be CEO of the Year in 2014? Well that's still up to you. Voting is currently open HERE but remember you must get your vote in by the 20 April 2014. The winner will be revealed at the awards dinner in Singapore on the 19 June.
