Less of the Same: How To Sell To The High Street #Carriers World

The agenda for this years #CarriersWorld, the first to be organised by Total Telecom has just gone online and you'll notice the change. There's definitely a new variety in the speakers and the topics and many more networking opportunities to provide increased relevance to the wholesale carrier community.

Like Eric Craig, Director, Carrier Partners, at Virgin Media Business. His background isn't telecoms but GlaxoSmithKline and PepsiCo, so he is uniquely qualified to give a whole new perspective. Indeed it interesting to watch this video he made a couple of years ago "How To Sell To The High Street".

Of course we haven't ignore the big names like Beatriz Butsana-Sita (B.T.), David Jan Aris (Liberty Global) and Mike Millegan (Verizon) - who Total Telecom interviewed at a previous Carriers World (see below)

We are confident that this years' Carriers World will be a refreshing change, so register today and take advantage of our dedicated networking manager, join in with peer-to-peer roundtable discussions, enjoy the end of day one party and much more...

Confirmed sponsors for this year include: IDT, Orange, Yota Devices, Virgin Media Business, Telenor, Arbitron Mobile, Surf Telecoms, and Deutsche Telekom. Find out more at www.carriersworld.com

Why Should #IPX Matter to You?

Recently Isabelle Paradis from specialist consultancy Hot Telecom interviewed IPX pioneer Lynn Liu, CEO of Aicent. You can read the interview on Total Telecom, and find out about her
views as to why it is such an important technology.

One of the key points to note is Lynn's comment that IPX matters to everyone:

"The GSMA defined IPX not only for mobile operators, but also to support interoperability between fixed line operators, ISPs, content providers and OTTs."

You can read the rest of the interview here

Following the same theme, watch this interview with Isabelle conducted at the Total Telecom Wholesale Breakfast (read that weeks Friday review for more on it)

Isabelle will moderate The IPX Summit that Total Telecom is organising in October. To find out how to attend, visit www.totaltele.com/ipxsummit

Make no apologies for voice - it still matters

This weeks Breakfast with Total Telecom briefing, 'The Future of Voice' reaffirmed for anyone who had doubts in their mind that voice is very much alive.

A packed room heard opinions from analyst and voice wholesaler, financial services, and OTT player, and all were in agreement - voice is still in rude health and isn't going anywhere soon.

Watch this video to hear from Hot Telecom, IDT, and Samba Mobile

There was an active discourse on Twitter with the hashtag #TTWholesale, with a few of the most notable Tweets being:

  • Telcos need to move into internet world not the other way around - Ben Atherton: CEO and Founder of Samba Mobile
  • Voice wholesale 'not as dead or dull as you might think' Jonathan Nierenberg: Senior VP Business Development Americas at IDT

Copper Counting - #Wholesale Breakfast

Back in February, Total Telecom+ looked at how telecom operators were using techniques to maximise the life and ability of the copper cables (Counting the Coppers - Page 17) and what impact this might have for FTTH. So it should be interesting to see how the discussion goes at next weeks Wholesale Breakfast with Total Telecom event, where one of the discussion points is "Can we continue with copper?"

Looking at the line up of speakers including Justin Fielder of Easynet, Daniel Kurgan of BICS and Jonathan Nierenberg of IDT Global, moderator David James might have his work cut out keeping control of the debate.

Attendance at the event is already looking strong with companies including China Telecom Europe, Colt, Deutsche Telekom, Easynet, Everything Everywhere, Gamma, iBasis, IDT, Mediatel, MLL Telecom, SEACOM, Telekom Malaysia, and Telstra coming along, but there's still time to register if you want a seat.

For this meeting, we will return to the fabulous 76 Portland Place, and attendance is free for telecom operators and service providers (just £295 for everyone else). It starts at 08:30 on the 4 July 2012.

Passion, Interest, and Scrap Yards

This weeks meeting of the World Telecoms Council brought together another strong group of participants from players including BT, Tata, Belgacom, Orange, UK Broadband, Tellabs and more.

Debate was always interesting and as this strip of images of Nicholas Topham (BroadGroup) leading a session, observed by Joe Kelly (BT Wholesale) illustrates - sometimes impassioned!

The debates across Emerging Markets on day 1 and Wholesale Telecom on days 2 demonstrated a wide range of opinion as well as giving the opportunity for some great video interviews (available shortly) from Total TeleVision and briefings from participants to gathered Total Telecom editors. The resulting stories can be read online...
And yes a tale of scrapyards was included by AA Telco who are running a scheme called SecondLife in Uganda.
