Vodafone keeps top spot in Machina M2M ranking 

Vodafone has held onto its position as the world's top telco in Machina Research's annual machine-to-machine (M2M) report.

"Vodafone has ramped up its already significant efforts in M2M in the last twelve months," said Machina Research CEO Matt Hatton, in an email to Total Telecom. "It has benefited for a while from tremendous scale and a keen strategic focus, but it also keeps engaging in new initiatives to cement its position as market leader."

BYOD and Smartphones drives career demand #jobs

A recent study by ITCareerFinder has highlighted the fastest growing and most lucrative jobs in technology. High on the list comes network management at number five on the list.

ITCareerFinder offers a career projection over the 10 year period 2010 - 2020 suggesting that over this period network management jobs will grow at a rate 28% above the average growth in vacancies, with the main driver being organizations investing in new systems and network technologies. This reflects responses to date to our network management survey, where 80% of respondents say the area is of growing importance.

The study flags tablets and smartphones as a particular driver of the trend, but we're also interested in other factors, such as M2M, Big Data, Cloud and more.

Machine to Money #M2M

Total Telecom is awash with headlines relating to #M2M, but how do you change machine to machine to machine to money?

From Russia with Love #FinanceSummit

Double Trouble #ATM #M2M

The BBC reports today that cardless ATM's are live for customers of Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) or NatWest. 


Hooray I hear you shout, real life M2M, mobile money at it's best, Smartphones as a mobile wallet, all good news for telecoms, right?


Wrong, you just know this is going to be a recipe for disaster. 




Picture the scene:


1. you rush to leave the house and forget your mobile - have to return because you need money
2. grab mobile and rush to bank - ATM out of order
3. no worries, you use your App to locate another ATM, just around the corner
4. you get there, it's working, success...
5. no failure. It's inside the shopping centre, there's no mobile signal - foiled again!


Of course if you'd had a cash card, lack of mobile signal wouldn't have mattered.


Progress is never going to be easy. Maybe you wouldn't have forgotten your phone, maybe the first ATM was working, and maybe there was a signal. But life is never like that...

CommunicAsia & ACA 2012

The second annual Asia Communication Awards #ACA2012 will take place in Singapore during CommunicAsia 2012.
